Trump Vows New Lawsuits Against Media, Criticizes Pollster and Des Moines Register
Donald Trump announced plans to sue the Des Moines Register and pollster Ann Selzer, accusing them of “election interference” over a poll that incorrectly showed Kamala Harris leading in Iowa.
Trump also revealed plans to file lawsuits against CBS, Bob Woodward, and the Pulitzer Prize board.
This comes after Trump settled a defamation lawsuit with ABC for $15 million. The suit claimed ABC’s George Stephanopoulos falsely stated Trump was found liable for rape in a civil case with E. Jean Carroll, instead of sexual assault.
Dive In
Critics, including CNN's David Axelrod, warned Trump's lawsuits could chill media coverage, likening his actions to those of Hungary’s Viktor Orban.
Trump also hinted at revisiting a TikTok ban unless its Chinese parent company divests, though he acknowledged the app’s role in helping him win youth votes.
Most of Trump’s past lawsuits against CNN, The New York Times, and The Washington Post were dismissed, but his recent settlement with ABC could embolden further legal action.

SoftBank Pledges $100B U.S. Investment, 100K Jobs in Trump-Era Replay
SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son announced a $100 billion investment in U.S. companies over four years, creating 100,000 jobs.
The move echoes a similar promise made after Trump’s 2016 election win. This time, funds will focus on AI infrastructure like chips, data centers, and energy projects, using SoftBank’s balance sheet instead of a Vision Fund.
The pledge is seen as a PR play to gain favor with Trump’s administration, especially since SoftBank has a stake in TikTok parent company ByteDance.
A Closer Look
Son’s visit comes as Trump pushes to block Japan’s Nippon Steel from buying U.S. Steel, adding intrigue to the timing.
SoftBank had already been planning major AI investments, with pre-election talks for a $20 billion partnership with Apollo.
Critics see the announcement as more symbolic than substantive, mirroring SoftBank’s 2016 playbook.

3 Dead in Shooting at Wisconsin’s Abundant Life Christian School
A shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, left three people dead and several others injured.
Police initially reported five deaths but later corrected the toll to three.
The shooting happened around 11 a.m., and officers arrived shortly after.
Further Observation
The suspected shooter, believed to be a student, was found with a gunshot wound but has not been identified.
Madison Police Chief Shone Barnes called it a "sad, sad day" for Madison and the country, urging people to keep the school community in their prayers.
The attack is the latest in a string of shootings at faith-based schools, following similar incidents in California and Tennessee earlier this year.

Apple, Google Told to Remove TikTok from App Stores on Jan 19
U.S. lawmakers have ordered Apple and Google to remove TikTok from their app stores on January 19 unless its parent company, ByteDance, sells its U.S. operations.
The decision follows a failed bid by TikTok to delay the ban through the U.S. Supreme Court.
TikTok’s 170 million U.S. users could lose access unless a sale is completed before the deadline.
President Biden could grant a 90-day extension, while President-elect Trump has given mixed-signaled on whether he will allow the ban to be lifted.
More Details
The move is part of a larger effort to address national security concerns over TikTok's data collection practices.
The U.S. joins India, the European Commission, and the European Council, which have also imposed bans or restrictions on TikTok.
