QUICK BITE

Who is the leading candidate among Hispanic voters?

According to a Rassmussen survey, Harris trails Trump by 26 points among Hispanic voters. Other polls tell a different story.

  • A poll by USA TODAY/Suffolk University found among Hispanic voters, Harris leads with 54% support vs Trump’s 40%.

  • A general pattern across several polls shows a discrepancy between the number of Latino females versus Latino males who support Trump.

  • For example, in the swing state Arizona, 51% of Latino men ages 18-34 and 57% of Latino men ages 35-49 favor Trump over Harris.

Whereas Harris seems to have the overwhelming victory with Latino female voters.

Several polls show the margin of Hispanic voters who support Harris over Trump is narrowing.

  • USA Today’s poll also has the  Democratic lead at its lowest since five presidential cycles ago.

  • This matters especially since the last presidential election saw a record number of Hispanics voter turnout.

  • A record 30 million Hispanics were eligible and 16.5 million voted. This was up from 12.7 million who voted in 2016, suggesting it will continue to be an upward trend.

Trump’s lead rapidly expands on Polymarket

By 9:30 a.m on Tuesday morning, Polymarket gave Trump a 50.9% chance of winning over Harris’s 48.2% chance. Less than eight and a half hours later, Polymarket’s predictions increased Trump’s lead to 53.3% over Harris’s 46.1%.

  • Trump has not seen such favorable odds from Polymarket since Harris took over the Democratic nomination.

  • Some attribute this upswing to a $4 million bet in Trump’s favor on Polymarket.

  • Others attribute Elon Musk's rallying cry at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania to Trump’s higher winning odds.

If either one of these cases are true, the Polymarket poll could even out eventually.

Still, other National polls show Harris having a slight lead over Trump. For example, FiveThirtyEight has Harris with a 55% chance of winning the electoral vote.

  • Other polls predict a tighter race than potentially either party imagines.

  • This is no more evident than how ABC News project 538 had Trump and Harris tied last week and now only shows Harris leading by .7%.

All of this emphasizes just how important every vote is for each party on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 5, as the race to become the 47th United States president nears a close.

KEY STORY

The nation rushes against the clock to clean up Hurricane Helene before Milton arrives

Since making landfall in Florida on September 26, as a category 4 hurricane, Hurricane Helene has become the US's deadliest mainland hurricane since Katrina in 2005. Across six states, Helene's death toll has reached at least 230 people and is expected to continually rise. One of the hardest hit states, North Carolina, accounts for half of that number.

The National Guard sent 3,300 National Guard troops to North Carolina to help with search and rescue missions,  emergency roof clearances and food and water deliveries. All together nationwide, 5,000 Guard members are serving on behalf of relief efforts.  More are coming to Florida as well as meteorologists believe Hurricane Milton will potentially be a Category 5 hurricane (stronger than earlier predictions) by the time it makes its landfall today. It’s been a desperate dash to clean up from Helene, especially since some fear Milton might be a once in a century hurricane as far as detestation levels go. “All this crap is going to be missiles. It’s like a spear coming at you,” Nick Szabo, who’s a part of Florida’s clean up crew, said about the danger of leftover debris.

5,000 Flordia National Guard personnel are preparing for the hurricane’s arrival and any tornadoes that come with it. Millions in Tampa and across Florida are fleeing to shelters. The US Army is gearing up with helicopters and high-water rescue vehicles–all in place to save as many lives as possible.

Several cities across the country are doing their part to assist in relief efforts.

The American Red Cross has 500 disaster workers on the ground and is sending hundreds more. The Salvation Army set up their new FORTS (Fold-Out Rigid Temporary Shelters) and as of three days ago reported having served 11,123 meals as well as reportedly assisting hundreds with emotional and spiritual needs. Even the Biltmore Estate pledged $2 million to recovery efforts and for a couple who had planned to get married at the historic estate, strangers came together to put their wedding back on.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has given $137 million in assistance and provided 15 million meals and 14 million liters of water to the states hit by Helene. FEMA also reported 1,200 urban search and rescue personnel have saved 3,000 North Carolina residents. To this point, North Carolina received “$100 million in federal transportation funds,” from FEMA. Then on an individual level, through FEMA, flood survivors can apply to receive up to $42,500 in home repair assistance.
